Trap Straps Information & Tips

"Grip is everything!"

Don't let the name of the Trap Straps fool you.  Albeit, the Trap Straps ARE superior for grip strength on a set of heavy dumbbells or barbell SHRUGS...

They can be used for ANY exercise requiring Grip!

Yes, grip strength is built when weight lifting, but it shouldn't be what you are trying to build when you do shrugs, lat pull-downs, rows, dead-lifts, etc.

When you do a shrug you are trying to build TRAPS, Lat pull-downs are used to build...Your LATS, and so on... they are not grip building exercises.  Your grip will give out long before your huge LATS will fatigue. Your grip will fail long before your TRAPS do, and what happens is that you either need to re-grip in the middle of a set and start again, or stop the set altogether because your grip has reached complete failure!  Your confidence to try a heavier weight has gone out the door!  This won't happen with the Trap Straps!  Actually, the complete opposite will occur...  You may realize that when you don't need to worry about "holding on", you can concentrate more on the muscle group you are putting emphasis on.  At the same time a fantastic phenomena will happen, you will want to go for something a little heavier on the next set, and the set after that!

The Fabric Straps?  Well, Those straps are definitely better than nothing at all, but are cumbersome to wrap and cause a lot of pain that I am sure you are familiar with when they rip into your wrists!  Often times than not, one of the straps is put on easily with the use of both of your hands then the other hand has to magically wrap itself around the bar.  And if by the time you have managed to wrap the second one, and the first didn't come loose, then you can start your set.  What a pain in the butt, not to mention your wrists!
